The NSS is part of our academic, social and personal life as it is the third dimension of education. It allows the students to actively contribute their services for the cause of community and the nation, thus helping them develop their personality. Service and attain the traits of a leader of the nation. As such,the NSS is the right platform, where the student- youth of the nation my get to involve with real-life social activities, and thereby become responsible citizen of India.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was evolved and introduced by the Government of India in the year 1969. It aims at developing amongst students a sense of participation in nation building through Social Work. This deepens understanding of the social environment and enriches his/her personality through actual participation in day-to-day life of the society. This process of learning is not only a desirable supplement to the classroom education but develops in the student a sense of responsibility, tolerance and cooperation. The NSS plays a vital role in the development of the latent aspects of the student’s personality.

As part of NSS JNTUA , Anantapur sanctioned NSS UNIT1 in the year 2008. The NSS Unit-1 of  Sri Venkatesa Perumal College of Engineering & Technology was formally inaugurated on 01 July 2008  by Dr. R.Venkata Swamy ,Chairman and Dr. C.Nadhamuni Reddy , Principal. Several Regular activities were conducting every year. As part of NSS activities every year we are conducting One Week Special Camp in the adapted village. University authorities satisfied with our NSS activities and sanctioned NSS UNIT-2 to our college  in the year 2010 and is formally inaugurated by Sri Ravuri Balaji , Vice-chairman, Dr. C.Nadhamuni Reddy, Principal and Dr.P.Ravi Raju, Medical Officer, Govt. Hospital Puttur on 19-11-2010.

The aim of the NSS is Education through community service.

The motto is not Me but You.

Overall Objectives
The overall objective is education. Service to the community is the activity through which this objective is attained.

Specific objective

  1. To arouse social consciousness of the students by providing them opportunities to work with and among the people.
  2. To develop an awareness and knowledge of social realities to have concern for the well being of the community and engage in creative and constructive social action.
  3. To provide with rich and meaningful educational experiences to them in order to make their education complete and meaningful.
  4. To develop skill needed in the exercise of democratic leadership and programme development to help them get self-employed.
  5. To give them the opportunities for their personality development.

Unit Level Organisation

There are two units of NSS in SVPCET under the charge of two programme officers.Student members are admitted into any one unit ,so that each and every student gets a chance to work under the NSS. The NSS of this College involves active participation of the Principal, college advisory committee, the teachers, students, governmental /non-governmental departments or agencies, local institutes and other beneficiaries.

Obligation of an NSS volunteer

Every NSS volunteer is expected to engage himself in NSS activities for 240 hours inclusive of a special camp for 7 days duration during a period of 2 academic years. All NSS volunteers will be provided with a work diary to record their details of work done. All outgoing volunteers are issued an NSS certificate by the state cell.

Benefits of Joining NSS

  1. The NSS offers a wonderful opportunity to use a part of spare time to empathize and help the poor and the under privileged fellow countrymen living in slums and villages.
  2. It provides the volunteers with an opportunity to train themselves as the future leaders and decision makers of the country.
  3. It provides training to equip the volunteers with the minimum necessary skills to carryout programmes.
  4. It provides with opportunities to take part in inter-collegiate / inter-university / inter-state camps and exchange ideas with students from other colleges / universities / states.

The NSS indulges in a wide range of activities, which includes the regular activities and the special camping programme.

Regular activities

  1. Blood blood donation
  2. Campus cleaning.
  3. Celebration of important days(NSS foundation Day, Voters Day, Engineers Day, Teachers Day, AIDS day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, International Womens Day etc..).
  4. Awareness Camps.
  5. Participation of students in various seminars conducted all over the state.
  6. Various cultural activities aiming at personality development of students.
  7. Raising of funds for various altruistic activities.
  8. Rallys on public awareness.

Special camping programme
Conducting Special camp of 7 days duration form an integral part of the NSS activities. The camps are conducted every year in the adopted villages or slums. By its altruistic activities, the NSS unit volunteers have reached out to the backward masses. The volunteers work in these regions for hygiene education, antiplastic campaign and to eradicate illiteracy. The camps are also aimed at the development of durable community assets like roads, canals, sanitation and other similar projects.

Swachhata Pakhwada on 1st – 15th september 2017

 Day-wise Activity Report

Day 1 – 01/09/2017 : Clean Campus

Swachhata Pakhwada camp is inaugurated by Dr. Naveen Kilari, Principal of the institution. NSS volunteers of the institution and other students totally 400 members attended the function. After inaugural session students participated in cleaning activity organized in the campus. NSS programme officers Dr. N. Sudhakar Reddy ,  E.Prakash babu and other staff coordinators attended and supervised  the camp.

Day 2- 02/09/2017-  Clean Hostel Day

Organized a cleaning program in the college attached boys and girls hostels separately. Hostel students attended the program and cleaned the surroundings of the hostel and also cleaned the hostel rooms.

Day 3- 03/09/2017-  Green Campus Day

A tree plantation program is organized at Chinnarajakuppam Village of Puttur mandal. NSS Volunteers and other students attended the tree plantation programme   and planted 300 siblings around the village and sides of the road in the village.

Day 4- 04/09/2017-  Clean Mess Day

Organized a cleaning program in the college hostel mess. Hostel students attended the program and cleaned the surroundings of the mess  and also cleaned inside the mess

Day 5- 05/09/2017-  Essay contest

Organized a Essay writing contest on “Innovative ways for spreading the message of hygiene” to all the students of the institute. 115 students participated in the contest. Selected the best performers of the contest.

Day 6- 06/09/2017-  Clean surroundings day

NSS Volunteers participated in a cleaning camp organized on the roads near by the college and cleaned the roads and removed the garbage at the sides of the road.

Day 7- 07/09/2017-  Care for the surroundings

Student volunteers visited the public places like Bus stands , Railway station and studied the garbage system.

Day 8- 08/09/2017-  Care for the surroundings- Visit to slum/villages

A rally on clean and green is  organized by  NSS Units at Chinnarajakuppam Village. NSS Volunteers  and other students, and staff   participated in  the rally.

Day 9- 09/09/2017-  Care for the surroundings- Visit to Markets

NSS volunteers visited the market in Puttur municipality and studied the system for cleaning. It is identified that Puttur market is maintaining in cleanly manner.

Day 10- 10/09/2017-  Care for the surroundings- Visit to Government Hospital

NSS volunteers visited Government Hospital at  Puttur  and studied the hygiene and  systems for disposal of garbage and hospital wastes.

Day 11- 11/09/2017-  Care for the surroundings- Visit to institutions for the poor

All NSS volunteers visited Abhayakshethram an organization for disabled people near renigunta and contributed Rs.5000 collected in the institution.

Day 12- 12/09/2017-  Care for the surroundings- Debriefing session with the commissioner

All the coordinators and NSS Programme officers of the institution met the Municipal Commissioner

Of Puttur and submitted a report and discussed about the systems for cleanliness.

Day 13- 13/09/2017-  Cleanest Hostel room

Cleanest Hostel Room contest is organized to all the hostel students. Evaluated the performance of the student and best performer is appreciated by the principal of the institution.

Day 14- 14/09/2017-  Elocution contest on health and hygiene is the real wealth

Elocution contest on “health and hygiene is the real wealth” is organized among all the students. Best performers are selected as winners of the contest.

Day 15- 15/09/2017-  Closing ceremony

Closing ceremony is organized in the institution. College Principal Dr. Naveen Kilari , appreciated all the participants of the 15 Day Swachhata Pakhwada activities . Winners of Essay writing and Elocution contests are awarded with a prize and certificate and distributed certificates to all the participants.
